Energy Policy...or how to fund those who want to kill you.

Energy. It seems that this administration wants to revive its energy plan, born in secrecy and beholden to the energy companies, due to its increased majority.
Why is this a bad thing? Because the bill does little to increase incentives for NEW energy resources and continues to give corporate welfare to corporations least in need of help AND it overtly disregards environmental concerns.
Doubt me?
Check out the RECORD profits of the oil companies in the past quarter. Instead of investing the windfall in new resources, refineries and alternative sources, they have used it to pay big bonuses to corporate execs, stock holders and the like. All very well for us capitalists, but then don't come asking for a handout from the government. It seems the NEO-CON dispises individual welfare, but is more than happy to hand it out to companies least in need.
Second, does the bill do ANYTHING to lessen our dependence on Middle Eastern Oil? Methinks not! We are funding the very people attacking us! This is not hyperbole as their money to finance war must come from somewhere and since the largest, if not only, source of capital in the Muslim world is oil money, then that is where their resources eventually come from.
Why are we not focusing on the Southern Hemisphere…in our OWN BACK YARD!?
Lastly, the environment is taking it on the gin. In order to allow energy companies to produce more and gain more profit, they will be allowed to defer upgrades and pollute more…legally. The goal is to produce more energy in the short term, but the long term effects to the environment are troubling. Furthermore, without incentives to build cleaner production facilities or upgrade existing ones, they will simply upgrade capacity of old ones to skirt environmental regulations placed on new facilities. This is bottom line thinking at its worst and it is STILL backed by more corporate welfare pork.
Don’t let this slide. Write, blog, speak, converse with everyone and anyone!
