uh... thanks tyler.
anyway mike, it's great to have you back!
Jessica,
While I understand your sentiment, I have to say my experience tells me otherwise. And I am speaking with 13 years in the Intel Community and a year tour with Special Operations in Afghanistan.
A man being tortured will say whatever it takes to stop the torture. I have worked with some of the finest interrogators in the world, and none of them condone torture. That doesn't mean stress or sleep deprevation, but it does mean electrodes and beatings.
We must always take the higher ground, or we lose the war of hearts and minds and that is the key to any counter insurgency.
I refer you to this:

Nowhere in there is torture recommended.
Emotionally, it feels good, for the short term, but in the end, it weakens the war effort. Movies make it look so simple, but that is rarely the case.
War is an atrocity, no matter who is on the "right" side. In the end, everyone suffers. Let's not contribute more to that than we have to.
